Research

We hold regular meetings at Burley in Wharfedale (Salem Church Hall) and Grassington (Aynham Close) with speakers on related topics and carry out project work to benefit present and future generations of historians.

Our quarterly journal, The Wharfedale Newsletter, includes articles, information and advice for both the beginner and more experienced member. We are always pleased to have articles to include in the journal and these can be sent by e-mail directly to Any item, either on your own family history or about family history in general, no matter how small, will be considered.

The group holds copies of various research aids including the International Genealogical Index and the 1881 census index on microfiche.

Meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month at Burley Salem Church Hall, opposite the Queens Hall, starting at 7.30pm and on the third Saturday of each month at Aynham Close, Grassington starting at 2.30pm. A speaker is normally arranged for these dates.

The group also has its own library from which members may borrow books and a bookstall selling family and local history publications.
